It’s going to be another fun filled week that’s packed with data, earnings and updates but below are my TOP 3 items to watch for this week.
With a potential increase in volatility this week is NOW the right time to look at Gold trades?
1. Federal Reserve Meeting (May 6–7)
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is set to meet this week, with a decision on interest rates expected on Wednesday. Despite pressure from President Trump and investor hopes for rate cuts, the Fed is anticipated to maintain current rates, citing economic uncertainties stemming from tariffs and immigration policies that could spur inflation .
2. Corporate Earnings Reports
Several major companies are scheduled to release earnings this week, which could influence market movements:
Monday, May 5: Palantir Technologies (PLTR), Ford (F), Tyson Foods (TSN), Clorox (CLX)
Tuesday, May 6: Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Marriott International (MAR), Electronic Arts (EA)
Wednesday, May 7: Uber Technologies (UBER), Walt Disney (DIS), Arm Holdings (ARM), DoorDash (DASH), Occidental Petroleum (OXY)
Thursday, May 8: Shopify (SHOP), ConocoPhillips (COP), Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD), Coinbase (COIN)
Investors will be closely watching these reports for insights into company performance amid current economic conditions .
3. Trade Policy Developments
President Trump's recent announcement of a 100% tariff on foreign-produced films has added a new dimension to ongoing trade tensions. This move, citing national security concerns, could impact the entertainment industry and broader market sentiment
As you can see, we have some pretty big items to watch for, especially the Wednesday Fed meeting. For this reason I’ll be watching Gold and GDX, but more on that tomorrow…..
Do you consider gold a safe investment in times of economic uncertainty? |
Cheers and good luck today!
