Good morning traders,

Typically Friday’s are great for SPY as people look to close the week out strong, but lately that trend has changed some.

Over the past 10 Fridays, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) has experienced an average daily return of approximately -0.3%, making Friday the worst-performing day of the week for the S&P 500 in 2025.

This negative performance is a departure from historical trends, where Fridays were typically among the better-performing days. The recent downturn is attributed to traders reducing risk ahead of weekends due to uncertainties such as tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports and concerns over AI spending.

For context, between 2020 and 2024, SPY's average return on Fridays was a modest +0.04%, indicating a significant shift in market behavior this year.

Today I’ll be looking for a possible rejection on SPY of $590 to $592 area and might be on the lookout for an afternoon 0DTE SPY put trade based on this data.
