Good morning all, markets are blazing hot once again and here is what’s driving them and what to watch for this week.
Market drivers Monday morning, June 30, 2025
Trade optimism
U.S.–Canada relations improved after Canada scrapped its digital‑services tax on American tech firms, rekindling stalled trade talks and supporting U.S. futures—S&P and Nasdaq futures climbed to record highs (up ~0.4–0.7%)
This optimism extended to Asia, lifting key regional indices like Japan's Nikkei and South Korea’s Kospi.
U.S. fiscal policy uncertainty
Republicans in the Senate advanced a sweeping “big, beautiful” tax‑and‑spend bill, though it’s facing Democratic and moderate Republican pushback—raising concerns about Medicaid cuts and a projected $3.3 trillion ten‑year deficit. The House’s vote is expected this week.
Tech & megacap strength
Premarket gains in big tech (Amazon, Meta, Apple) provided a boost to Nasdaq futures.
Additional support came from U.S. bank stocks after all major banks passed the Fed’s annual stress tests, clearing the way for dividends and share buybacks.
What to watch this week
June jobs report (Thursday) will be a key test for market expectations on Fed rate cuts.
July 4 & 9 deadlines: Congress aims to pass the fiscal bill by July 4; a broader tariff/trade truce deadline looms on July 9
Fed commentary & global inflation data: Speeches from Fed officials and the ECB's Sintra forum will be closely watched.
Once again I’ll be looking to trade markets higher and follow the trend until I see something different.
