What’s driving the markets higher this morning 📈

What I’m eyeing early

Morning traders, make sure you check the schedule and join us in the Market Master’s chat room as we have a slightly different schedule today-

Thursday’s lineup:

11am ET Jeff Bishop LIVE

3 - 4pm ET Market close w/Jeff Williams

SPY is pushing higher this morning and the path to $570 by Friday’s close remains open for me even though it seemed very unlikely at one point yesterday. Here are a few reasons why markets are pushing higher this morning.

Federal Reserve Maintains Interest Rates

The Federal Reserve decided to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 4.25% to 4.5%, as widely anticipated. Chair Jerome Powell emphasized a "wait-and-see" approach, citing uncertainties in inflation and employment. This stance has been interpreted by investors as a sign of stability, contributing to positive market sentiment.

Optimism Over Potential U.S.-U.K. Trade Deal

President Donald Trump announced plans for a "major" trade agreement, reportedly with the United Kingdom. While details are pending, the prospect of reduced tariffs on autos and digital services has boosted investor confidence, signaling potential easing of trade tensions.

Market Recovery and Tariff Exemptions

Following a significant downturn in April due to tariff escalations, markets have rebounded. The U.S. has paused new tariffs on most countries and exempted certain tech products from existing tariffs. China has reciprocated by exempting approximately $40 billion worth of American goods. These developments have alleviated some trade-related concerns, supporting market gains.

Sector Performance and Earnings Reports

Positive earnings reports from companies like Disney and Uber have contributed to the market's upward movement. Additionally, semiconductor stocks, including Nvidia and AMD, have risen following reports that the U.S. may ease export restrictions on advanced AI chips.

Chart wise, I am now watching the 200 SMA on the SPY to see if we can push to this level today and or on Friday. That level currently sits around $570 so my position for today would be SPY Calls, meaning I believe SPY can trade higher.

Cheers to your success today!
